My name is Michael Szelwis, I am 26 years old and I am a student from the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) in my final year of school. About 10 years ago, when I was attending high school, I learned Russian for 3 years and took part in an exchange program with St. Petersburg for 2 weeks. Since that time I always had the desire to extend my knowledge of the Russian language by spending some time in this county. During the final half year of our 5-year-degree-program in mechanical engineering at the TUHH, we are not attending lectures anymore but are writing our final theses. To prepare our theses we are normally doing research with one of the departments of our university. In my case, I was lucky to find the TUHH's Institute of Solids Process Engineering and Particle Technology which has a cooperation with the Department of Theoretical Mechanics of SPbSTU. Consequently I am now working in St. Petersburg with Professor Krivtsov for almost 3 months to do research for my final project. My research work concentrates on the simulation of the plastic behaviour of an innovative ceramic-polymer-composite which is being experimentally evaluated at my home university in Hamburg.
